Therapy should feel accessible, not confusing.

If you have questions about payment options, out-of-network benefits, or using your HSA/FSA, I'm happy to walk through them with you. My goal is to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Why I Choose to Be a Self-Pay Practice

Choosing a therapist is an investment in your wellbeing, and I know that cost is an important part of that decision.

One of the questions I hear most often is, "Why don't you accept insurance?"

It's a thoughtful question, and one I want to answer openly.

I chose to operate as a self-pay practice because it allows me to provide care that is centered on you, not on the requirements of an insurance company.

My goal is to create a therapy experience that prioritizes your needs, your privacy, and your healing.

What Self-Pay Means for You

Working with a self-pay therapist allows us greater flexibility in how we approach your care.

Rather than working within insurance requirements, we can focus on what feels most helpful for your unique situation.

Self-pay also allows for:

  • More personalized treatment without insurance limitations

  • Greater flexibility in the pace and focus of therapy

  • Increased privacy, as your personal health information is not routinely shared with an insurance company

  • No required mental health diagnosis solely for insurance reimbursement

  • More freedom to determine the length and frequency of sessions based on your needs

Every person's healing journey is different. Self-pay allows therapy to reflect that.

Making Therapy More Affordable

I understand that therapy is a financial commitment, and I want to make it as accessible as possible.

Many clients use one or more of the following options to help offset the cost of therapy.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Most HSA and FSA plans allow funds to be used for psychotherapy.

These accounts let you pay for therapy using pre-tax dollars, which can help reduce your overall out-of-pocket costs.

If you're unsure whether your plan qualifies, I encourage you to contact your benefits administrator.

Out-of-Network Benefits and Superbills

Even though I don't bill insurance directly, many clients receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits.

If your insurance plan offers out-of-network coverage, I'm happy to provide a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurance company to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What percentage of therapy costs will be reimbursed?

  • Is there a deductible I need to meet?

  • Are telehealth therapy sessions covered?

Thrizer

If you have out-of-network benefits, Thrizer can simplify the reimbursement process.

Instead of paying the full session fee and waiting for reimbursement, Thrizer may allow you to pay only your estimated portion of the cost upfront while they handle submitting claims on your behalf.

Many clients appreciate the convenience of having fewer administrative steps and a clearer understanding of their expected costs.

If you're interested in learning more, I'm happy to answer questions or direct you to additional information about how Thrizer works.

Investing in Your Wellbeing

Therapy is an investment, not because healing should come with a price tag, but because your wellbeing matters.

Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, parenting challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy offers a space to slow down, feel supported, and develop tools that can benefit you long after our sessions together.

My hope is that every client leaves therapy feeling more connected to themselves, more confident in navigating life's challenges, and more equipped to move forward with greater self-trust.
