Fees and Insurance
I believe therapy should be financially sustainable for both the person receiving care and the therapist providing it. I also know that finances, insurance coverage, and access to care can look very different from one person or family to another.Making Therapy More Financially Accessible
Because of that, there are a few different ways to work with me. You can choose private-pay therapy directly through Sam Wilson Therapy using my tiered fee structure, or you may be able to use insurance to work with me through Rula.
My hope is to give you options so you can choose the path that makes the most sense for you.
Private-Pay Therapy Through Sam Wilson Therapy
For clients choosing to work with me directly through Sam Wilson Therapy, I offer three fee options for ongoing individual therapy.
Standard Fee | $130 per session
This is the standard rate for therapy and may be the right fit if paying $130 allows you to consistently attend therapy while comfortably meeting your basic financial needs.
Reduced Fee | $105 per session
This option is available for clients who can meet their basic needs but for whom the standard fee would make consistent therapy difficult to maintain.
Supported Fee | $85 per session
A limited number of supported-fee spaces are available for clients experiencing greater financial strain or for whom paying a higher rate would mean sacrificing basic needs.
Which Fee Should I Choose?
There isn't a perfect formula for choosing a tier, and I don't want finances to become another place where you feel like you have to prove that you're struggling enough.
I simply ask that you choose thoughtfully. Consider your income and expenses, access to savings or financial support, debt, caregiving responsibilities, and whether paying for therapy at a particular rate would interfere with your ability to consistently meet your basic needs.
If you can comfortably pay the standard fee, choosing that tier helps me continue offering lower-fee spaces to others. If you need a reduced rate to make therapy sustainable, that is exactly why these options exist.
Financial circumstances can change. If yours changes while we're working together, we can revisit your fee together.
Reduced and supported-fee spaces are limited and based on current availability.
Prefer to Use Insurance?
I understand that using insurance can make therapy significantly more accessible for some people. While Sam Wilson Therapy is primarily a private-pay practice, I also provide therapy through Rula, an online mental health platform that works with a variety of insurance plans.
If you would like to use insurance, you can explore whether your plan allows you to work with me through Rula. Because insurance coverage varies by plan, state, and individual benefits, Rula will verify your coverage and provide an estimate of your expected cost before your first appointment.
Choosing to use insurance through Rula doesn't mean you're receiving a different version of me or a different level of care. It's simply another way to access therapy when insurance is the better financial fit for you.
Check your insurance coverage through Rula.
What If I Have Out-of-Network Benefits?
If you prefer to work with me directly through Sam Wilson Therapy, your insurance plan may include out-of-network mental health benefits.
I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed, so I recommend contacting your insurance company directly if you'd like to understand your out-of-network benefits before beginning therapy.
You may also choose to use Thrizer to help navigate out-of-network benefits and reimbursement.
HSA & FSA
HSA and FSA funds may also be used for eligible therapy expenses. If you're unsure whether your plan allows this, I recommend checking directly with your HSA or FSA administrator.
Not Sure Which Option Makes Sense?
It's okay if you're not sure whether private pay, a reduced fee, insurance through Rula, or out-of-network reimbursement makes the most sense for you.
Finances shouldn't have to feel like another complicated part of reaching out for support. You're welcome to contact me with questions about my private-pay options, or you can check your insurance eligibility directly through Rula if you'd prefer to use your benefits.
My goal is simply to help you understand the options available so you can make the choice that feels most sustainable for you.
Investing in Your Wellbeing
Therapy is an investment, not because healing should come with a price tag, but because your wellbeing matters.
Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, parenting challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy offers a space to slow down, feel supported, and develop tools that can benefit you long after our sessions together.
My hope is that every client leaves therapy feeling more connected to themselves, more confident in navigating life's challenges, and more equipped to move forward with greater self-trust.
